Hi,
I need to understand what is needed to connect from computer A to a remote
computer B by WMI.
The remote computer B has the following properties:
- it is using an ADSL connection by a modem
- has Windows XP Professional SP2 with firewall disabled
- it's a stand-alone PC (doesn't belong to any domain)
The credentials used to connect is the admin account on the computer B.
My goal is to copy and install Office 2003 SP3 on remote computer B with
as little effort as possible from a user on computer A and I see that with
WMI it is possible to do that.
My first task is to make the connection to work.
I realize I need to make the WMI service process on computer B to accept
remote connections. For this I might need to setup modem to forward some
ports but I don't know which ports are needed for WMI.
I tried to connect using the wbemtest and I got the well known general
failure message "The RPC server is unavailable".
I need some insights how to do achieve the connection.
Thank you.
