A: People bitching about top posting
Q: What's the most annoying thing on USENET?
I'm confused why your sig states top-posting is a bad thing (and is
bottom-posted) yet your message is top-posted :-)
For those new to this group who may not get the joke (and I think
James has certainly been around long enough to get it, hence his
emoticon), it's a reference to Alf P. Steinbeck, who has the
following sig:
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is it such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?
Alf mostly frequents comp.os.ms-windows.programmer.win32, but
occasionally he'll comment in m.p.w.p.*. I prefer bottom posting
also, but Alf is *MUCH* more militant about it, which is annoying
even to those of us who prefer bottom posting.
IMHO, it should only be made an issue when it impacts readability,
such as mixing types (top-posting to bottom-posted messages, and
vice-versa). And in the m.p.w.p.* groups, most people top-post
anyway, so us bottom-posters are the minority and really shouldn't
whine about it. :)
Kudos, Alexander! That signature is hilarious! :-D
David
yes I saw the irony - hence the smiley :)
