Re: a modem that supports playing and recording .wav files in Vista (64bit)

Actually most modems that I've been buying have not worked in either XP or Vista (to date I've tried Multitech, AOpen, Creative, USR and Hiro modems).

The only one that has worked well in XP for me was the AOPen FM-56 PX.

However, when I first got my Vista machine the company that put it together got the blue screen of death when they tried to install an AOPen modem on my Vista machine. There site still doesn't have Vista driver; here's a post form the summer of 2006 when I started looking for them http://club.aopen.com.tw/forum/viewmessage.asp?forumID=11&MessageID=85923

Also there was a Multitech modem that worked in a vendor's Vista Machine but not in mine although we seem to be able to match operation systems, modem firmware and drivers (modem and wav) ???

Have you been able to get any of these modems to work with XP and that support playing and recording wave files?

Also, when you say that they don't record or play, I assume from a TAPI perspective that you mean that lineGetID("wave/in" or "wave/out") return an invalid wave ID?

For about 18 months now - ever since the 1st public beta release of Vista, I've been trying to find a modem that supports voice (more specifically one that permits the playing and recording .wav files) on Vista (64 bit). I now have a collection of modems that various manufactures have said would work but did not.

The assumption I've been following is MS has purposefully changed 'something' or 'somethings' that the modem manufactures have not yet reacted to (as opposed to MS introduced a bug in Vista that they have yet to fix).

What would be very helpful is if someone could provide some insights into exactly what has changed in Vista from XP to prevent this from working.

I'm sure I've spent countless hours barking up on the wrong tree.

Rob
