Angus,
the website only talks about call recording, not about
full-duplex conversation.
I'm not sure if this could be a good replacement for
a TAPI telephony device, but it might be better in
detecting caller id than generic modems.
BTW: some time ago we tested a larger number of
modems and from this experience I can say that
you might need to test more than one or two to find
one that is really good...
Best regards,

Yes in addition to CLI you do get full duplex audio - a cable plugs intoport
PC's sound in port. But it is NOT a modem. It sits between telephone
and PC COM port - oh and for voice - cable to sound card.for
Retail price in UK is about £70 ex taxes I think. Company is Crucible
Technologies - http://www.crucible-technologies.com/
I will buy one and play about with it.

Angus,modems
does the box you are refering to provide audio with full-duplex?
AFAIK the programming model for USB ports is almost identical
to serial ports (in fact it should be just normal serial communication
with overlapped I/O), the only difference is how you open the port.
Some modems provide country specific settings. In XP there is
also a dropdown list for selecting it. I have no personal experience
in the UK, but did you set the modem to the correct country
settings before testing?

In the UK most modems don't do proper CLI detection. In addition,
required.often interfere with the call by squealing etc - and that is not
areIn addition modems are not full duplex with TAPI etc etc. These boxes
younot that expensive.
The box I am looking at at the moment has a serial port. Company say
can get a serial to USB converter - but not sure how I would listen
you.events on a USB port!
If I could find a satisfactory modem for UK use I might agree with
ofsetups/homeconnect

Angus,
modems are so cheap, why take so much effort to write
a TSP for a box that might be even more expensive than
a modem and probably doesn't have a hardware interface
anyway?

Hello
I know this is not really TAPI but I am looking for a box I can
between a phone line and a telephone - ie for small analog
users/small offices - and detect callerID.
I have found a company Crucible Technologies but is anyone aware
aother
companies? Any experiences? Any ideas on how these boxes detectCallerID?
I am looking for something as cheap as possible then I would write
TAPI
driver for box and market to anyone interested.
Angus
