I'm having trouble determining why this loop occurs though, because by
the time I get the process stopped, the older log entries seem to be
truncated, so I'm stuck with a 1mb log file containing only "Got an
spevent". I've noticed that a .old file also gets generated, but that
file is also filled with "Got an spevent" messages.

I have log entries before and after I execute the lineEventProc from
TSP side, and those entries are always in the log file, indicating that
lineEventProc completed.

you can change the log file size in the registry:
key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\<binary_without_extension>
value: REG_DWORD "MaxFileSize"
