Not every modem can retrieve caller ID. In some cases an Agere modem will accept at+vcid command but not actually be able to detect the caller ID signaling, and besides like I said, every country uses their own Caller ID signalling. In particular, while in US caller ID (ANI) information is sent between the first and second rings if the line is subscribed to the service, in the former Soviet block countries as well as some of the former Eastern European satellites, the caller ID has to be requested through a signal to the telephone exchange.
Across many ukrainian cities you see a mix of old and new telephone exchanges, with the old ones requiring the interrogator device (AON), and the new ones supporting automatic ANI delivery. I suspect that the latter send it in a format supported by commonly used modems.
As for which Agere modems support caller ID - most commonly those with voice support, although there are exceptions. Normally the text on the box will indicate caller ID support

Hi! I have the same problem I've posted it under the subject: "ITCallInfo::get_CallInfoString returning E_FALSE or S_FALSE"
Alex, are you saying that callerID detection is common to all modems. 'cause I was looking around the stores, and on some modems it is written callerID detection and on some - not. I do have Agere modem, and it does say OK on AT+VCID=1 but there is NO extra data betwen first and second calls. the hyperterminal look like this:
Ring
Ring
Ring
...
I'm sure that callerID is available, 'cause I can see it on the phone that is connected to the same PSTN line.
I've even tried to modify driver inf file, for it to recognize all possible variants of callerID, but still no luck.
Alex, can you confirm that internal Agere modem can retrieve callerID?
Thanks.
"Alex Feinman [MVP]" <public_news@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ???????/???????? ? ???????? ?????????: news:%23CJAUGTkFHA.3960@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI'm not sure why you call it Intel - it's Rockwell (Conexant). It should support at+vcid=1
The problem with Caller ID must be as I discussed earlier - the modem firmware probably does not match your country settings.
You seem to be in Morocco or thereabouts. The phone system there most likely uses French standards so if you have a modem with US firmware, it will be expecting a different signalling. In any case, I don;t think you will be able to find a different firmware for this modem, so I suggest getting a cheap internal Agere or Conexant HCF/HSF modem since they are easily configurable. In fact they would pick up the country setting from Windows.
