how to properly modify an interface

Novice question. I want to add some functions to the existing interface.
There is only one client to that COM server and it is maintained by me, so I
can modify them simultaneously and keep the same ids. The only problem is
that they are distributed separately and somebody may install a new client
and forget to install the new server. What would you recommend?
