Server behind a router problem getting messages through

I have two simple programs I got from this forum which I am testing out:
client.exe and server.exe.

My client is behind a router. Server is not. When Client connects to the server
and sends messages (simple text string) The servers sees them OK. But when it
replies with an "Ok! got!" acknowledgement message it never gets to the client.

When both are not behind a router everything works OK.

My aim is to send messages when I am traveling and in a hotel. I probably will be
behind a router then. How would I solve this problem?
