Timing problems with MailSlots

Hello,
my application communicates with MailSlots with another program (not
written by me). The communication works so far. Unfortunately, I
noticed that all my active threads are running much slower when the
other program sends something to my MailSlot. Does somebody have seen
such a problem and
knows the reason for it?
