I guess, that's because NTFS security settings of a folder does not
allow Everyone to access this folder. When you click on shared folder
properties you see "Sharing" tab which allows you to specify users
that are able to use share. Also, there is "Security" tab which allows
to set users who are able to access folder. Make sure that 'everyone'
is set for "Security" tab.
Allow me to pick your brain for a moment if I may.
I hate file systems that have built-in permissions. File systems are for storing files, not for saying who and who not can access them. If I really wanted to keep people away from my data the I'd encrypt it using Truecrypt.
Anyway, I want to disable NTFS permissions altogether in Windows XP Pro SP2. Do you think the following is a good way of achieving that?
* Open up permission settings for the C drive
* Change the owner on everything to me
* Go to permissions, delete all permissions.
Then add one permission for "Everyone" and
give it full access.
* Click the check-box which says apply to child
objects aswell
* Hit Apply
This does exactly what I want, i.e. it effectively neuters the NTFS file permission system... but I'm just wondering if there's a better way of doing it?
