Re: raw socket send problem

There were a lot of debates, and in XP raw sockets were limited to UDP and
they can be used only under adminstrator. I did not checked it in Vista, but
I believe it is the same. I think you cannot just enable it.

And is there any way how to enable it in windows ?

Because I need it due testing netfilters in Linux. I need to send various
udp packet and test some performance. I want(or wanted:)) to send packets
from windows machine.

Starting with XPSP2, I don't believe that Windows client SKUs allow the
usage of raw sockets to spoof source addresses - as far as I know, this is
true on Vista as well. On Server SKUs, the ipnat.sys firewall (e.g. RRAS on
Srv03) can also interfere with this.

Hi,

I have to write application, that will test the firewall performance. So I
need generate packets with various source address.

When I use my IP address in IP packet header it works fine. But when I
change source IP, packet will be discarded - I cant see it on outgoing
interface.

So my question is : how can I send packet with "fake" sorce address?

I use win vista 64bit + administrator account

Thanks for replies
