Try "ipconfig /release"/ "ipconfig /renew"

the 10.0.0.12 is local / non routable address and was probably assigned to
your computer by the old router using dhcp.
The first IP is bound to your NIC card.
The second is bound to your modem.
This would normaly be assigned to a network card
Control panel network connections -> lan or highspeed connection -> right
click it and look at the properties for TCP/ IP.
If you do not have a local network you could just disable the Network
card, but in anycase the second IP will not really do any harm.
By the way if you have changed from a NAT router to a Modem make sure you
have a firewall on or you may get attacked by Worms.

I have a Windows XP PC connected to the Internet with one NIC and a
standard DSL modem ( this PC was once connected through a router). When I
use ipconfig I get 2 ip addresses -
10.0.0.12
180.178.56.16
Why does the first address appear?
Can I eliminate it somehow?

Gur
