I tried it on two different machines, one running with Win2K, the
other one with WinXP. It's the same on both machines. The program is a
MFC application written in Visual Studio 2005. Can there be a problem
in VC++ 8?

There are a couple of subkeys each of those contain a REG_SZ value
"Description" and a REG_SZ value ServiceName which have the correct
settings.
