rpcping -s ncoantfs -v 3 -E

This is the exact command line I tried based on what you said previously.
The output (at a time when things are working) is as follows:

"RPCPing v2.12. Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation, 2002
OS Version is: 5.2
You must specify authentication level, security package and ncacn_http
protocol
sequence if you want to use RPC/HTTP front end security (-E)"

I don't know what that means or what to do about it.

In addition to Anti-virus software influence, I recommend that you check
if
you can telnet to the server TCP port 135 at that time.

I will telnet to port 135 next time it happens. When things are working, it
connects successfully.

Also, this issue may be able to dynamic TCP port and firewall.

As far as I know, there is no firewall involved. Windows Firewall is
disabled by domain policy and our hardware-based firewall doesn't touch it.
Of course, I will investigate this further should telnet to port 135 fail.

To monitor the communication, you can also use NetMon. You can install the
tool from Add Remove Component or download the tool from:
Microsoft Network Monitor 3

Since the issue is complex and occurs intermittently, you may also
consider
to contact Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) via telephone so that
a dedicated Support Professional can assist you in a more efficient
manner.
Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.

Yes. We feel that there is more we can investigate before calling for
support and spending the money. And if that feeling changes, we will at
least have some details to give them. The apparent nature of this problem
keeps changing as we dig deeper.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me
know. It is my pleasure to be of assistance.

I really appreciate the help as long as you are willing. I am aware that you
are basically offering us free support.

Paul
