RE: How to retrieve vendor specific info with DhcpRequestParams

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hi, Josef,
Thank you for using Microsoft newsgroup!

I did a test at home for establishing the real DHCP environment yesterday.
I found something similar with what you said.
By NetMon, I found the "MSFT 5.0" occured in "Client Class Information" of
request at the server side no matter what I set parameters in my program.
However, in my program I couldn't find the data of SendParams was modified.
It still kept same after DhcpRequestParams() being invoked.
I'm not sure whether that's the issue you want me explain. From my
research, I believe the "MSFT 5.0" should be the client OS information ,
packed with other data for composing a request to DHCP Server.
I found some clues from MSDN, "MSFT 5.0" is the class data of the vendor
class "Microsoft Windows 2000 option"
that includes all Windows 2000 DHCP clients.
You can refer to this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;266675
Though it didn't talk about Windows XP and Windows 2003, I think Windows
2000 and its above versions are the same.

Hope above helpful to you!
Also, I'm consulting some experts regarding this issue for clearer
explanations.
Thanks for your patience.

If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know. It's my
pleasure to be of assistance.

Have a good day!
