help backing up remote computer's registry using REG.EXE...

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello, I'm new here and I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct spot.
If not please tell me where to take my question. If you can help though,
I'm trying to do this in a command prompt:

reg save \\<computername>\<key> <filename>

to save a registry key from the remote computer <computername> to a file
<filename>. It says the operation is successful, however, the file does not
show up where I specified to save it. Further, if I run the same command a
second time, it says it cannot create a file when it already exists, as if
<filename> existed. I cannot find it anywhere.

If I do the same thing on the local machine, like this:

reg save <key> <filename>

it works perfectly, and I can see my saved file. Does anyone have any
insight on the behavior of this command when run on a remote computer? I
have admin priviliges on the remote computer, and have it connected in
regedit. I'm using Windows XP. Thank you!

~Mike
