You assume that there is just one user per IP which is not true even for 9x.
In general this is impossible. It _may_ become possible if you restrict the
problem. Try to answer the following
1) What to do if there are many users on a given machine?
2) Is this for security purposes (and thus users are hostile and you must
not make errors) or a courtesy service to your users?
2) What kind of domain do you have (NT4, Win2k NTLM, Win2k Kerberos, etc.)?
3) What kind of workstations do you have (9x, NT, Linux, etc.)
3) Is it ok to install an "agent" on each workstation or you need a server
side solution?
