If the sound card install adds it's *own* ACM driver then yes it is
possible. The default Microsoft ACM driver only supports up to 48kHz, and
does not get installed until the first piece of sound hardware is
installed. The kmixer itself supports higher samplerates (under 2000,XP)
but that is only used for playback.
You can see all the audio ACM codecs on the system by looking under "Sounds
& Audio Devices" in the control panel, going to the Hardware tab and
looking under "Audio Codecs". The Microsoft PCM ACM cannot be replaced but
additional codecs that have the same function can be loaded and set with a
higher priority.
