If i open the System process Threads using latest version of Proc
Explorer, I always see the thread that maxes out the cpu is
"ntoskrnl.exe!MiModifiedPageWriter"... if I click on the Stack button
it gives this error:
The modified page writer is a system thread that writes modified
pages to the pagefile. You should be able to get a stack trace by
running !vm 3 command from a kernel debugger (even local kd
should work, as in kd.exe -kl).
Most likely you'll not see anything particularly interesting in the stack.
The real question is why there is so much work for the modified
page writer to do.
How much RAM does the system have, and how long do periods
of high CPU usage last?
