encounter if you implement encryption at so low level????

My Thinkpad laptop has disk encryption,
probably it is done in the ide controller.
The disk performs not worse than in other models.

The performance loss should not be noticeable; like
with wireless LAN that uses AES. The controller anyway buffers
data blocks between the drive and host, so it is a good place
for the crypto engine.
