Jochen,
Explorer help says
Windows 2003 R2 Standard Server X64 Edition.
This R2 vesion comes with 2 CDs, and the docs are not all very clear, but
apparently R2 is a brand new license, and its updates the SP1 on CD #1 with
R2 baloney on CD #2.
Its not very clear if I can select a 32 bit installation on this INTEL EM64T
Pentium D/P4 CPU machine. I'm suspecting I am not going to have the option
with this R2 version.
Apparently, the installed OS is the x64 edition. The environment string
PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE says AMD64. And I also see a folder called "Program
Files (32)" which was what triggered my questions after the Plug and Play
detected the new PCI card hardware but had trouble finding its drivers from
the hardware CD.
What's important is that I must get this PCI card with it 32 bit only
drivers to work so all I am trying go figure out if I can install the 32 bit
version of 2003 from these R2 two CD version and support the card on this
CPU or this PCI card will not work on this Genuine Intel Dual Core P4 64 bit
AMD64 clone (called EM64T) CPU.
I'll find out soon in a few hours once card vendor wake up and open shop <g>
Thanks

Hi Hector!to
The vendor installed Windows 2003 Standard Edition (RC1) and I take this
solvebe the 64 bit version.
Why not look at "Explorer|Help|About Windows"; if it is x64 then the
headline should contain:
"Windows Server 2003 R2
Standard x64 Edition"
I have a PCI card with 32 bit drivers and the OS can't detect them to
install them.
32-bit drivers cannot be installed in a 64-bit OS.
The question is, should reinstalling the 32 bit version Windows 2003
Butthe driver problem or compatibility issues on the x64 processor?
Yes. You can simply install a normal x86 OS on an EM64T processor.
I assume the Windows 2003 CD will ask me what version I want to install.
theI am getting the impression it will auto detect the x64 CPU and install
64 bit version of Windows without giving me a choice.
Normally there is only one CD per x86 or x64...
Greetings
Jochen
