Newb question: changing video capture resolution

I'm writing a hobby app to do visual categorization of objects in
images. I've done this before, but I want to be able to grab images
directly from a camera to speed up work.
I've been playing with the PlayCap sample in the Windows SDK. I've
been able to control a lot of the camera properties, but there is one
thing I need that is missing. I can't find any way to control the
resolution that the camera is capturing at. It's only giving me a
320x240 stream, which is not sufficient for my needs. I know the
camera hardware supports up to 1600x1200, but I don't see any
interface that would allow me to set this.
Is there an interface in any of the filters that will allow me to set
the resolution, or is this just a function of the device driver?
.
