It seems to add a layer of confusion where additional confusion was
not necessary <g>, at least for those of us who are new to this.
Much as I might like to, I get to spend very little time with the
multimedia side of things. I thought there might be some compelling
reason that experienced DX programmers encountered often.

I've seen people rebuild MFC libs as well, but the stock libs were
always included by MS as a standard.

Plus the fact that no project files are included and build approach,
with command line tools, seems so different from the rest of MS's
development effort. It's kind of strange to jump into the Platform
SDK and be transported back 10 years to makefiles and command line
tools. It's confusing.

And if MS had been forced to build their libs more often, they would
have found a couple pages of flagged errors under the VS2005 CL
compiler. These have existed since the VS2005 betas and have not been
fixed:

There is at least one file named in a PSDK makefile that no longer
exists in their distribution. Stuff like that.

So changes to the base libs are the norm then. That would explain
part of it. Still could have used project files.
