I looked at the readme files for those samples, but I didn't quite grasp
what they samples did. On second read, the BitMapMixer has some promise.

Please bear with me a bit. What is VMR? I poked around on MSDN circa
DirectShow, but I couldn't find an introduction to VMR; just detailed
interface descriptions.

Did you look at the vmr samples? I thought some of them used DX.
