Managed DirectX 9 Kick Start

Hello all. Well I have finally made time to re-start learning DirectX
again after some unfortunate holdups. My question is regarding Tom
Millers Kick Start book.
In the first few examples all the way up to chapter 6 (that is where I
am now) Tom Creates View Transform that is placed along the positive Z
axis then he "points" the camera back toward 0,0,0. Is there a
particular reasoning that I'm just not getting as to why he did this
instead of creating the camera at 0,0,0 and "pointing" it down the
positive Z axis?
This must seem silly but it did cause a bit of confusion for me at the
beginning until I realized where the camera was in relation to the
object being drawn. My only guess has been he wanted to make the
reader think and not just type in some code from the book, which in my
opinion is a great way to weed out those who are just in this to play
around and those who really want to learn.
Thanks for the time and any insight you provide,
