Why are you using Direct3D 7?
Well spotted... the reason is due to compatibility. The end product
has to run on a wide variety of machines, including laptops with pants
graphics cards and maches that could well be 8 years old!
Our customers would scream loudly if we insisted they had to have
brand-spanking new graphics cards.
