Generally speaking, it is difficult to paint a broad brush over which
programming career yields the highest pay. A good source of information on
graphics programming salaries is found in the International Game Developers
Association's website (http://www.igda.org/breakingin/path_programming.htm).
You can also find papers and presentations on the "Quality of Life" issues
that game developers face at the IGDA website as well
(http://www.igda.org/qol/).
In the end, the most-rewarding careers are determined by doing what you love
the most. If what you love the most happens to be "money", you might want
to consider a career path in consulting instead :-)
