Insert/overwrite mode when record audio

Hi,
Recording audio is fairly simple in DirectShow. I set up this graph:
Audio Capture Device -> [My own filter] -> WAV Dest -> File writer
Using this graph, I can run/stop and pause/resume recording. This
always works in "append mode".
My question is; how do I INSERT or OVERWRITE sound data at a certain
time position in the WAV-file? I have googled this, and it seems
impossible to find any information about this well-recognized problem!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
.
