Spying on Windows Media Player

Is there any way at all to try and determine what filters Windows
Media Player is using to render a particular file? Basically what I am
trying to do is figure out why certain Shoutcast internet radio
streams play in Windows Media Player but do not play in another
application that uses DirectShow. Unfortunately, this other
application is closed-source and there is no support available for it.
I have a Shoutcast source filter registered on my system so I don't
know what is wrong.
For now what I've tried to do to "spy" on Windows Media Player is to
use Process Explorer from sysinternals(now Microsoft) to see what DLLs
WMP has loaded. The problem here is that I see a bunch of filter DLLs
loaded that aren't even relevant to the stream I am rendering so it is
not too helpful.
Any ideas? Thanks.
