Basic questions

Some years ago I wrote a user-mode DLL which uses a WH_MOUSE_LL hook
to translate WM_MBUTTONDOWN into a double-right click. Over the years
I've coaxed various apps, including Explorer, to load it at logon. It
has always worked well.
Could I accomplish the same goal (perhaps by the same method) with a
filter driver? Would there be any advantage to doing so? If "yes" to
the first question, I'd appreciate some pointers on getting started
using the DDK/WDK.
Thanks.
