Rather than asking this question and looking for a specific answer here, why don't you grab regmon and find it yourself.

That's the first thing I tried before posting here, but the results were not as straightforward as I thought. That's why I was hoping someone here would know the proper sequence of registry writes and what gets replicated to where?

I do understand the argument about keeping API calls abstracted from underlying sub-systems, but we still need it documented for each o/s release. They don't change that much from or that often from NT/2000/XP/Vista.

The big difference with open-source is that if I ask where a setting resides, they just tell me, no need to a sixteen page debate over whether I need to know or not.
