You are talking about the difference between a laptop and a server class workstation. You should probably check again, to see if such a comparison even exists... A Core 2 Duo is just a CPU - what about the rest of the necessary components to run the software? (high end PCI express graphics alone will disqualify the laptop - get into memory, and there's no comparison)
Look, it's a moot issue. I can't just throw a couple dozen $K to upgrade an entire design department. And I'm certainly not going to downgrade to a laptop from a workstation.
Compatibility with existing infrastructure - these are the keywords.
If you really want to point me in the way of hardware, show me a Wireless adapter that fits a full length PCI slot, and is x64 capable. (not the consumer grade 32 bit PCI cards for desktops) I have only found these made by IBM - and they are 11 Mbps. (an old product)
Do you know of someone who makes an x64 compatible product that supports wireless N?

As per the results I have seen the Core 2 duo beats AMD hands down....

My workstations are AMD Opteron...

perfectly support x64 Vista.
Don't know about Belkin and others.
