Some have mentioned and I may agree with them that maybe those lights should
have enough intelligence to be controllable from the computer. They should
work properly when plugged into an unpowered hub and not even use the 100ma
if it is inadequate. The power subsystem should be able to see them and
power them down unless told not to, but it would increase the price. My
general surprise was that I received that letter when there was this long
thread about these lights.

If you want variation from standards, I once worked on the FlashPath which
is a mini-computer that looks like a floppy diskette. I also worked on the
Smarty which was a smartcard reader in the same form. Because of patents,
only that company could make a product like those.
