Let's see,
dos3,4,5,6,dr-dos,w95,w98,w2k,xp,w2ks,w2003s,Mandrake,RH6,6.3,9..etc...

So, no; Unless you *want* go to a totally diffrent file system (like between
FAT16,32,NTFS,EXT), no, you don't have to fdisk/format.
Ex: i "deleted" a w2k, cleand everything, except what i wanted to keep, like
favorites, logs in Yahoo Messenger...etc..then installed XP, quite happyly
and succesfully
On a FAT16/32 you can even go from W2k+ back to a dos boot and viceversa,
without format

Afcorse, explaing how you can do it is a lot dificult then just telling the
pooy guy to f***/format

Did you acctualy read my post?
It's a shame that somone from a HDD production company knows so little on
how to use them...

Did you ever heard of bootable CD-ROM disks?

OK, so let's suppose you have Windows 2K installed and want to remove it,
then install W-XP:

-Rmove you HDD from your system, insert it in another Windows machine
-Delete your windows (ussualy name "WINNT") folder
-In the "root folder" delete:
"Ntdetect.com"
"ntldr"
"Pagefile.sys"
-Rename "Document and Settings" to "Document and Settings.Old"
-Put the HDD back into your old system
-Power On, use the "del" (or whatever hot key you see durong the bios
start-up) to "Enter the BIOS"
-Coose the primary boot device as "CD-ROM"
-Insert your Windows XP
-Save & Exit
-boot....Windoes XP set-up loads
-Selet the old "C" partition, choose not to format it
-OS installs happyly...etc..etc..
-OS reboots
-Go back in BIOS, choose the primary HDD as the main boot device
-Save & Exit
-boot...Windows setup continues...
-etc..etc..
-OS installed

-Optionally copy from "Documents and Setting.old" in the acctually "Document
and Setting" things like favorites..
cookeys..etc..

How hard is that?
