The features like "have a select return the count of how many rows a select
will return." is not in SQL standard.
http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~shadow/sql/sql1992.txt
Different DB providers have different supports for these functions. I think
you would need to determine what vendor it is and adjust the select based
on their syntax.
