Access 2000/Sybase 12.5 Client - user defined functions in query g

Our enterprise relies on Sybase for corporate systems and has recently
undertaken an upgrade to Sybase 12.5 client from 11.something.

I have an Access 2000 database with linked Sybase ASE tables in which I have
long used a user defined function in the query grid [or SQL] to return a
variable. This has stopped working since the upgrade, and produces the error
[DataDirect][ODBC Sybase Wire Protocol driver]Invalid precision value. Error
in parameter x (#0)

Can anyone help?
