'connection failed'

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I am using MS Access 2002 to link to some SQL Server 2000 tables, and run
queries on them. After a few minutes, I get an error that reads:

Connection failed:
SQL State: 'S1000'
SQL Server Error: 0
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Cannot Generate SSPI Context

I can reboot, and it will start working again, and then it will fail again.
I also have Enterprise Manager on my machine. If I go to EM after the error
occurs, I get a similar error if I try to open a table.

This happens from my desktop machine, using Windows XP. I can access the
same tables from my laptop using Windows XP, and don't have this problem.
I've been using this machine to access these tables in this manner for
several months, and this problem just started occurring last week. The only
thing strange that happened around that time was that I tried to run a
Crystal Report against this database, and it crashed. But I'm not aware of
anything that CR does that could mess up ODBC.

I've deleted and recreated the ODBC data source on this computer, I have
reinstalled MDAC (v. 2.81.1117.0) from the SQL Server installation disk, and
I've reinstalled Enterprise Manager, but still have the problem.

I've found articles about AUTOCOMMIT causing an SSPI problem, but I'm not
explicity using any transaction commands. All I'm doing is opening tables
via links from Access, and it'll work sometimes and then it won't.

Any suggestions as to what else I can look at?

thanks,
DWN
