Access databases are file based. The only way to share an Access database
between users is to put it in a shared folder where the users that need it
can get to it with read/write permissions.

I guess I will try simplifying the question in case there's someone with an answer out there: > > Is it possible to establish an ODBC connection across a DMZ/domains to an Access database (both on Win 2003 servers)? I see in SQL Server, you need to open appropriate ports, but I have not fund anything on Access databases. > > The original question is below: > ------------------------------------------ > We have a pretty simple Cold Fusion application that accesses several small Access databases via ODBC. We are moving over to a new Web Server (on Windows Server 2003). We wish to put the Access databases on a different server. (also Windows 2003). To access the new server, the Web Server would have to cross a DMZ (and obviously, switch domains). We are having problems accessing the ODBC database on the other machine. I believe this is because of access privileges. > > Is there somewhere in the ODBC configuration where we can set up what user ID and password to use when accessing the ODBC driver? Cold Fusion itself have some settings for ODBC, but it doesn't look like it accounts for database machines on another domain. I think the solution would be if we can set the Access ODBC driver to use a specific password and ID . I tried the "Default Authorization" setting within the Access ODBC settings, but we still get the authorization failure. > > Any ideas as to what I need to do, or possibly doing wrong? > > Thanks in advance. > >
