Re: Advice On How To Keep Data Please

I think to best answer your question you need to answer a few more questions yourself.
a.. How much data do you plan to store?
b.. How secure must it be?
c.. Where does the data come from? An existing database, an existing server, end-users, process-control systems or something else?
d.. What format is this imported or existing data? XML, JET database, SQL Server database or some other source?
e.. Do you plan to pass the stored data around? For example, do you plan to pass the database (or data) from person-to-person as an email attchment?
f.. How do you plan to share the data (or do you plan to share it at all)?
g.. Do you plan to expand the database or the number of users in the future?
h.. What tools do you plan to use? Are you familar with Visual Studio/VB.NET/C#?
i.. What DBMS tools do you plan to use?
j.. Do you need a consumer-grade database frontend like Access or do you plan to use the VS tools to build a UI?
k.. Are you planning an ASP (or ASP.NET) application, a Windows Forms or new advanced technology applications?
l.. And, most importantly, do you plan to upgrade your skills from DAO or ADO to ADO.NET?

There are (always) more questions, but these should give us a good idea about which DBMS engine is necessary.
