Re: Which ADO provider to use to connect to MS Access DB under Vista x64 ?

Bob, I just converted one of my NWind.mdb databases using Access 2007 and it created an entirely new database file with a new extension. Now the JET 4.0 OLE DB provider won't open it. What are customers supposed to do now? Fall back 10 yards and punt?

I spent an hour searching for the answers to these questions this morning. Unfortunately, my answers, as of today, have to be :
1. Yes
2. Yes - although that WS2003 patch does provide some hope that they will release one for Vista.

thanks for your answer, I juste need to clarify and can you confirm :

1. Jet is not 64 bits compatible, thus a 64 bits application can't
use Jet provider to connect to a MS Access database
2. there is no other provider available to connect to MS Access
database
thanks for your help

Oops, Sorry, my bad.
I'm sorry but I can find no solution for you, outside of extracting
your data from your Jet database and putting it into a database that can
be accessed by 64-bit applications. MSDE or SQL Server Express come to
mind given that they are free to use.

1. the link install Jet for Windows 2003 Server 64bits, and I am
using Windows Vista 64 bits, thus the program actually won't install on
Vista -> error message incompatible system

2. I saw on msdn forum a lot of articles indicating that there is
actually no version of Jet for Vista 64 bits and that MS won't
release a 64 bit
version of Jet, so I need to connect to MS Access DB with an other
provider.

Not use Jet ... ??? It's a Jet database. What else would you use?

BaCAD wrote:
Yes, I forgot to mention, that I don't want to use Jet !
Any other suggestions ?
thx
