Async command to start procedure, then kill program

I am wondering if it is possible to kick off a command asynchronously,
then terminate the program. I am aware that I can't actually close
the connection while a command is executing (see link below), but I
would like to set up a script to simply execute a stored procedure
asynchronously, then terminate.

I'm trying to avoid the problem of needing to remain connected to the
server while the command is running. I have had some connectivity
problems with my server and am trying to run several procedures, some
of which run for a few hours.
