Just as an FYI, for anyone who might care, either now or in the future while
searching through archives...
It turns out the reason IUSR_[MachineName] wasn't part of the selectable
user list for my database (to grant it access) was that this user first had
to be added under the Security entry for the server itself (NOT just the
database)--it had to be added to the 'global' login list. I'm probably not
explaining this quite right as I don't have it in front of me, but suffice
it to say that once I added this user, it became selectable from within that
database.
Which leads me to believe that if I backed up the database, blew away SQL
Server and then reinstalled it (and restored the database) I'd still have to
recreate that user on the server, since the only thing the backed up
database itself contains is a reference to that other list defined for the
server...correct?
.
