I know that the back end is read only becuase my front end users get
errors that they can't do anythng and when I go to check the back end
when I open it there is a pop up that it is read only. The only way I
know this can happen for sure if the back end is opened directly in
Access with the open option exclusive. I don't think this is the case
so I am trying to figure out if anything else could be cause it to
happen. The backend is a MDB file. My front and back end are seperate
and there are no linked tables.
What version of Access is the MDB? Which Jet driver version are you using?
How many users do you have? The Jet engine is only designed for a small
number, and once you get too many, or you have other users locking records
in the same 2K data pages in the older driver would result in errors. There
is a utility somewhere that allows you to inspect the LDB file to look at
the locks that have been put in place, when you get the error take a copy of
the LDB file and then inspect the copy to see what's going on.
