Well, I ran dasetup.exe /u on the machines that were on MDAC 2.8 RTM and it
reverted them to MDAC 2.5 SP3.
I ran our batch processing again, and all the machines went from 30 minutes
to 15 minutes to process, just like the machines that are running MDAC 2.7
SP1 REFRESH.
It looks like MS did something in MDAC 2.8 that really hosed SQL
connections, at least for Win2K Pro machines.
FYI, I did setup a new test machine which had WinXP Pro SP2 installed, and
had MDAC 2.8 RTM on it. That machine performed out batch process in 18
minutes. Much better than the Win2K/MDAC 2.8 combo, but not quite as good as
our Win2K MDAC 2.5 and Win2K MDAC 2.7 combos.
Looks like I foudn what was causing the slowdowns with our system.
I figured I would give a detailed reply here, in case anyone in the future
finds this post through a search.
