The TransferText method will not import into Access a text file with a
non-standard file extension (i.e., custom ext for a separate application).
If the extension is manually changed to .txt, the file is able to be
imported. I want the user to only have to select a file for programmatic
processing and not to have to intervene manually.

Can an additional file extension be added to the list of acceptable text
file extensions used by TransferText? Or is there some other means to
accomplish the import programmatically?
