I am having exactly the same problem.

When I check the install log for the Jet SP8.0 install, it's full of errors, so I assume that it doesn't work (even though the installer leads you to believe that everything worked)

The Jet provider is in the registry and I can register and unregister the MSJETOLEDB40.DLL file OK

The Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC also has the same problem... provider not found.

So here we have a situation where Windows XP with Office XP installed will not run most desktop VB apps (ie Jet). I would call that a pretty serious problem!

I have also spent all day trying to sort this out with no luck.
