G'day André,
Firstly, I must come clean and say that I haven't played with Firebird.
My experience is with 4.2-6.0 of Interbase. However, AFAIK the basic
communications requirements are similar - you need to install the
client, then the ODBC driver, to be able to connect to Interbase.
It sounds to me like you have two different Interbase clients installed
on separate computers. The likely cause is that you installed the
Firebird server on one of these computers, so it got an updated client
into the bargain. The outdated client could have come from anywhere -
perhaps another Interbase version?
Compare the versions of the GDS32.DLL files on both computers, find this
file under the \WINNT\System32 folder. If they differ, there's your
answer.
I notice that Easysoft have their own news server and that it carries
specific newsgroups for supporting their drivers, so maybe you'd get
more knowledgeable replies if you tried pointing your newsreader there:
server: news.easysoft.com
group: easysoft.public.ib7-odbc
Of course, I'm still happy to continue this conversation here though :)
