At work I was moved into the tech unit with concentration in SQL 2005. I
would like to obtain the MCDBA. My question/concern is that with so much to
learn, what is the best path to take or how does one go about studying for
MCDBA.
The "MCDBA" is a SQL Server 2000 only certification.

and requires four exams (two on SQL Server 2000 one on Windows Server 2003, and an elective, either on Windows Server 2003 or Visual Studio .NET)
Since you're already assigned to a SQL 2005 environment, you'd probably be better served by pursuing the MCTS: SQL Server 2005.

Following that introduction, then you'll have the decision whether your interest is more tuned to "Database Administration"

or "Database Development"
