Re: MCTS/MCITP

For 70-431, I used two books (Sybex and ExamCram), Books On-Line, and a
trial version of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (free download). Do the
exercises in what ever book(s) you choose. Using the Skills being measured
matrix available from the MS website, work back and forth among your
resources (btw, BOL is probably the best available, and it's free too) to
verify you understand the concepts. Since you have SQL experience,
concentrate on those features that you either don't have experience with, or
those are new to SQL 2005. You can use any available test engines out there
to measure your progress; personnaly I don't bother, but you may find them
useful.

Remember: the cert is there to verify your existing experience. At least for
this test, you should be able to get it no problem, and spend a few
hundreds, but defintely not in the thousands.

good luck.

I do not currently have my MCDBA or any other MS certification. However, I
have been a Sql Server 2000 DBA for about five years now.
What I want to do is first get my MCTS Sql Server 2005 certification and
afterwards my MCITP Database Administrator. But here's my dilemma: I am
going to have keep this inexpensive as it does not look like my work will
pay
for me to enroll in a school and I don't have 1000's of dollars to enroll.
So my basic questions are "how can I get first my MCTS Sql Server 2005
certification studying on my own?" and "is this doable and realistic to do
on
your own?" considering that I do know the core of Sql Server 2000 as it
is.

Note: I can afford to pay for books, MS online courses, collections and
things like that. I just can't afford a $6,000+ curriculum from a
training
school.
