RE: Certification to choose

I passed 70-229 in December 2006, and now the 70-431 is very hot. And I am
currently working on SQL Server 2005 as a junior developer. I am not sure
whether I should go for MCITP or MCDBA. And does anyone know which exams in
MCDBA and MCITP have simulation questions? I would like to know and prepare
well to before I go to exam.

When I got ready for the MCDBA exams I had a hard time finding quality.
material to study from. I wasted a bunch of $ on Sybex which which turned
out to be of no help getting ready for the test. My two favorite DBA books
are:
"Professional SQL Server 2000 Programming" by Rob Vierira
"Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Performance Optimization and Tuning Handbook" by
Ken England
The 2nd book gives an intense look at tunning and is not an easy read.
You will also benefit when it comes time to take the test from having used
some practice material like Transcender - those aren't cheap but, it will get
you used to the types of questions you are likely to see on the exam.

If you are comfortable on SQL 2000 and consider the Enterprise Manager to be
an old friend then I would consider going MCDBA. MCITP is the "new
generation" cert that focuses on the SQL 2005 BI Development Studio.
If you do a lot of development you might want to get an MCAD which comes in
several flavors: C#.NET, VB.NET and WinApp or WebApp. Most if not all of the
MCAD courses will count as electives in your MCDBA program which I thought
was a plus. MCAD uses SQL Server heavily as it's preferred data store so you
have to know your way around the db to be sucessful.
